I've been miserable where I work for a while now, but I kept putting off looking elsewhere and using the wedding/honeymoon as an excuse. I've been a paralegal for 13 years, and have worked for the same attorney for 8.5 of them. Now this office is falling to shit.
Short story long - He offered me a raise/promotion November of 2014, I accepted, come February 2015 I still have no raise but responsibilities greatly increased. When I inquired he told me that he couldn't afford to increase my salary at that time. I have a strong work ethic and I'm a loyal employee, so I stuck it out. November of 2015 I find out he's hired 2 more employees; I ask again about raise, he again tells me he cannot afford to pay me more, what now with the new employees. Said new employees come to me frequently because they are bored and have no work - we simply do not need them. Now yesterday he tells me he is cancelling the health insurance he pays $500/mo for that covers my kids and myself, and will give me a $2/hr raise. Which ultimately SAVES HIM $2,500 annually. The benefit I am getting from this place has actually just decreased, but he is calling it a raise.
The fact that he is a complete and total asshat douche bag is just the icing on the proverbial cake.

Thanks ladies. I live in a small town, so there aren't many opportunities in my field. That makes me nervous.
I just found out that our receptionist quit - her last day is Friday, and no one told me.
Falling to shit.

"Less Douchtastic" - I'm stealing that.
Happiness at this point is overweighing the salary - I'm simply miserable here. My only problem is that our 2 weeks in Costa Rica in June (delayed honeymoon) are already paid for! Eek.

Hi, hire me but I will be gone for two weeks in July. I think if you are upfront and let them know tickets are paid for they will work with you. Hopefully.

I had to deal with that with my army drill. Luckily for army stuff they can't do anything about it. But I had one boss that was super supportive. The other one was mad about it. But he was a dick so I took pleasure in telling him that I needed time off for army stuff.

Good luck!
I've been job hunting constantly for about a year and a half and finally got a part time position Fer a year of being unemployed. I'm still looking for full time work and can't make any plans about time off for the wedding or a honeymoon because I don't think I will be able to get the time. Hopefully any new employer will understand that the trip is paid for and let you take the time.

Sorry to hear that. It is hard to break away after you've been loyal for that long. But you are worth much more than that and the next employer you have will have a great, loyal employee. Moving jobs is very scary, best of luck in finding something new. Keep us posted on your search!
