Ok ladies - it just hit me. I have a strapless dress (maybe with cap sleeves). And I'm going hiking for WEEKS this summer. Wearing long-sleeved shirts is not an option in the heat, and even if it were, I'd have weird tan lines around the base of my neck and wrists.
I will have insane tan lines on arms and shoulders, and I don't even want to think about what my back will look like. No way it'll have faded by early November. My tan lines have lasted for years - those bitches hang on hard.
What are you doing to avoid tan lines this summer? Anybody going/gone the spray tan/makeup route on their wedding day? Results?

They make lightweight shirts using UPF fabric that you could look into. And apply sunscreen every 10 minutes.

I would use a long sleeve shirt. Something like under armor or linen. Having bare arms is actually going to hurt you a lot. Having a longer shirt like a linen one will help you sweat and cookie efficiently and keep you from burning.

Thank tops are easily one of the worst things to wear while in the heat and sun.

Thanks, JoRocka
Ha, Sarahkat - that's funny. Sunscreen is definitely not getting applied anything like every 10 minutes when hiking over mountain ranges. I'd never get anywhere! And we've got 300 miles to cover, so...nope.

I would definitely recommend sunscreen every hour or so.

Omg, you just made me realize that I need to worry about the same thing!!! Going to Israel to hike for two weeks and then spending the summer down the shore, plus I have a dress with a unique strap situation so I can't have tan lines at all - eek! So, following, because I definitely also need this advice!

Are you hiking the PCT by chance?

I'm kinda glad I don't really tan. Or I would have to worry about this too.

My doctor told me my vitamin D is severely deficient and I need to get out in the sun and I'm all "OMG NO! TANLINES!"

Florida here, and yes, I'm still deficient. No clue how that happens. I've been taking supplements for almost a year and I'm still super low.

Vitamin D actually comes from two sources: the sun and food. I spend a lot of time outdoors in the sun but also am vitamin D deficient. I am also a picky eater that doesn't eat foods that are rich in vitamin D. So it could be due to food and not just sun exposure.

I am not a picky eater at all and eat all the things that are known for Vit D. I really can't understand why it's so low what with the supplements, FL Sunshine, and my Vit D rich diet.
Of course, FH just uses it as ammunition for jokes involving "giving me the D."
